Get Active!

Get Moving! - This is the warm-up activity of each lesson and will be uniform throughout the year. The song “Happy Day” will be played at the start of each day’s Get Active time. The children will quickly learn to associate this song with activity. Once the music stops, the teacher leads out in a Get Moving activity consisting of easy-to-follow large muscle movements.

Can You? – This is the fitness portion of Unit 1 focuses on a variety of animal movements that help children develop strength in the upper body, arms, and legs. Children will learn to move like a(n) frog, crab, puppy, kangaroo, horse, bunny, inchworm, elephant, eagle, hummingbird, crow, and ostrich. Detailed descriptions of each of these movements can be found in the Glossary of Terms.

Zoom In - Children will learn and practice basic locomotor movements during the skill development portion of the lesson. They will learn how to correctly perform the fundamental movement skills of jogging forward and backward, sliding, galloping, hopping, jumping, and walking. Descriptions of each of these movements are also found in the Glossary.

Two days each week, the children will perform creative movements that illustrate an action story that goes along with the Bible stories being taught in the unit.

Wrap-Up - The class period concludes with the children gathering in a huddle to learn a celebration cheer - “1, 2, 3, God made me. 3, 2, 1, moving is fun!” This cheer will be used to end each day’s lesson.
